14/20 Guide des Vins Bettane+Desseauve 2018

"I believe only the second vintage for this cuvee, the tiny production 2014 Saint Chinian La Dournie is a smokin' blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Carignan that will see 18 months in new, larger, 600-liter barrels. Ripe, nicely concentrated, medium to full-bodied and downright seamless, it gives up tons of classic Grenache charm in its black raspberry, crushed rock, violets and spice-laced bouquet. Coming all from schist soils, it's a pretty, beautifully balanced Saint Chinian that will have a decade of overall longevity. This is one classy Saint Chinian that should check in near the top of the vintage. "

The 10 ha harvested in developing the classic wine of Dournie are shale soils. Terroir original charge of smells and colors, it gives the wines finesse and aromatic power.

Grape varieties: The Tradition is a blend composed of a dominante Syrah, complemented by Grenache and Carignan.

Vinification and aging: The harvest is manual, yields never exceed 40 hl / ha. The grapes are vinified separately, after de-stemming, they follow a traditional vinification in vats for 15 to 20 days with pumping over and punching down. The assembly of the vintage is done in the winter and breeding continues in vats for the most part during 1 year, about 20% will be raised in barrels of wine.

This wine with southern accents, proves with garrigue scents and develops toasty, fruity blackberry. The palate is soft and liquorice finish.

languedoc great red wines grappes saint chinian Dominant of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan

A refined and gourmand wine. The nose is complex and expressive. Aromas of ripe fruit, slightly smoky notes and finely peppery make up his first impression olfactory.
The palate is tasty, full and frank. It is powerful and racy and reveals notes of grilled hazelnuts, ripe cherries and sweet pepper. Elegant and persistent finish.
