|ABOUT THE WINE :
The Great Wines of Languedoc - The Wines of Occitanie
Domaine Saint-Cels is located in the heart of the Saint-Chinian appellation, in Languedoc. This winery has plots on different types of soils: hillsides of shale, clay, limestone and pebbles rolled along the edge of the Vernazobre and Touloubre.
AOC Saint-Chinian Red Grand Travers vintage pays tribute to an old black Carignan vine, planted by the grandfather of Etienne Rouanet, winemaker of Domaine Saint-Cels.
The blend of this wine highlights traditional Languedoc grape varieties, used in the Saint-Chinian appellation, namely black Carignan (40%), black Grenache (30%), Syrah (20%) and Mourvèdre (10%).
The Grand Travers vintage is intense, brilliant with a beautiful ruby color that glistens with purple hues.
On the nose, she asserts her powerful and fresh character. Subtle black fruit notes such as blackcurrant and blackberry blend with scents of scrubland (oregano, thyme), black olives and licorice. These aromas are typical of Saint-Chinian wines and the diversity of terroirs within the vineyard.
The attack on the palate is lively, dense and voluminous. The intensity of the fruit aromas perceived on the nose is found as soon as it is put into the mouth. In the finish, Mediterranean notes of garrigue and black olives arrive, supported by tannins present, assertive and pleasant that provide a beautiful persistence to the palate.
A red wine from Saint-Chinian to drink over the next 7 years.
